Honors, Exhibitions, and Award Competitions

A major goal of our college is to foster and enrich the academic experiences of students who seek exceptional challenges and growth.  In recognition of superior academic accomplishments, we offer academic awards and prestigious scholarships along with other competitive research and writing competitions awards. CELEBRATION OF UNDERGRADUATE ENGAGEMENT (CUE)

The Celebration of Undergraduate Engagement (CUE) is a chance for undergraduate students to showcase their research, and connect and share their work with other students, faculty, staff and the public. CUE is organized by the college's Ryan Family Student Center.

EMSAGE

The Earth and Mineral Sciences Academy for Global Experience, or EMSAGE, was formed in 2009 as a vehicle to foster our students’ global competence and to promote a spirit of integrity, service, and leadership.

GEMS Diamond Award

Established in 2006, the GEMS Diamond Award honors and recognizes a graduating student who shows excellence and balance in academic achievement and volunteer involvement in both university and community activities during their time as a College of Earth and Mineral Sciences student.

Dean Edward Steidle Memorial Scholar Award

Dean Edward Steidle Memorial Scholar Award

Established to honor Dean Edward Steidle who was dean of the College from 1929 to 1953. To be eligible for the award, a student must be a graduating senior, a truly outstanding scholar in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, and plan to go to graduate school.

Ellen Steidle Achievement Award

Established in 1953 by Dean Edward Steidle to honor the memory of his wife, Ellen Girsham Steidle. The Ellen Steidle Achievement Awards recognize junior and senior EMS student for their service to the College. Students in good academic standing with at least two semesters as an EMS student may be nominated. Senior Award: $1200; Junior Award: $800.

Schreyer Honors College

Schreyer Honors College

The Schreyer Honors College at Penn State offers small class size and one-to-one access to distinguished faculty, all within one of the world’s leading research institutions. Just five percent of the undergraduate students enrolled at Penn State are members of the Schreyer Honors College and can earn thevdistinction of graduating with honors from Penn State.

Millennium Scholars

The Penn State Millennium Scholars Program is designed for high-achieving science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) students who will become leaders in their chosen fields and are committed to increasing the diversity of professionals in STEM-related disciplines. Millennium Scholars are students with both the passion and the ability to advance the frontiers of knowledge and change the world.

Definis Award

Jay M. and Katherine Definis Award for Outstanding Student Leadership

Established in 2005, this award honors outstanding student leadership abilities within the student organizations of the college.
