Ryan Family Student Center

Ryan Family Student Center

We aim to provide the most student-centered college in all Penn State history, and the Ryan Family Student Center serves as the core of our efforts.

The student center integrates tutoring, advising, student work space, and areas for casual interaction into a one-stop shop for student success. A walk through shows the vibrant and engaging academic atmosphere we foster for our students — our goal is to create a warm, welcoming, and small-college feel amid the rich activities taking place on the University Park campus.

The Ryan Family Student Center first opened its doors to students in 2004. It was named in honor of notable alumni John T. Ryan Sr. and Jr. and their families. John T. Ryan Sr., after receiving a bachelor’s degree in mining engineering in 1908 from Penn State, went on to co-found the Mine Safety Appliances Company, which helped improve safety in the mining industry throughout the twentieth century. Both John Ryan Sr. and Jr. served on Penn State's Board of Trustees and were highly influential in the University's development.
